Previous to his time as a new/used car sales representative at an import auto dealership, Billy was a music major at Drake University and graduated from the University of Toledo. He played with several touring groups, and has played drums for such names as Rodney Dangerfield, Leslie Gore and others. Billy was also honored to be chosen to write original music for several specials on ESPN and TNN.
His hobby of racing led, eventually, to a career completely centered around the automotive and racing industries. CART’s Hemelgarn Racing hired Billy as PR Director, which led to working directly for CART a few years later. With Hemelgarn’s assistance, he created his own public relations company that he manages to this day. Clients include or have included ARCA, Ford Motor Company, Porsche Cars North America, Inc., Chevrolet and many others. As a writer, he has been a contributor to AutoWeek, National Speed Sport News, Cleveland Plain Dealer, Toledo Blade, and others.
All this time, he was also pursuing his racing career. To date, Billy has 15 SCCA championships to his name, and holds five national or international endurance driving records, as certified by ARCA. Two of those records are for Porsche Cars North America. He now passes on his knowledge to others, having instructed or been chief instructor for several racing schools in the U.S., including The Marlboro Racing School, TrackTime and The Mid-Ohio School.
Oh, yeah. Billy was also an on-air field producer for the internationally-syndicated Focus On Racing Radio.
All of this has lead to facilitating for the automotive industry, and acting as a spokesman for manufacturer sales training and competitive comparison videos.
